1.What is your daily inspiration/motivation?
I am. I want to live a happy life and I knew that in order to do that I needed to look within myself and create the best life possible. Since I was very young I knew I wanted to help people, I just didn’t know how I want going to do that. Now that I’ve manifested the energy from my past and turned it into something beautiful I turn to myself to inspiration to help others get through their struggles and learn to love themselves, again.
I also look up to my parents and Jamie Oliver. I love Jamie so much it makes me sick.
2.What is one habit that influences your daily life?
Positive self talk. I look myself dead in the eyes every morning and tell myself I can fucking do anything. I remind myself the important of remaining authentic, humble and professional.
3.What is one thing that you would tell your younger self?
Nothing in life is permanent but change.
If it won’t matter in 5 years then it should’t matter now.
You are enough. Fuck them, do you.
4.What is something that you wish you had more time for?
My boyfriend. He is the kindest person on the planet and I wish we could spend more time together but right now my job is my number 1. I have dreams and I really want to create an amazing base. He supports and loves me. I am lucky to have someone so understanding.
5.If you could tell someone one book to read what would it be?
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck
6.What is your number one tip to starting a business?
Be realistic. Stick to your guns. Learn from your mistakes. Trust your gut.
7.If you could eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?
Spicy Creamy Vegan Ramen from Jinya Ramen Bar
8.You’ve built a successful business through starting FoodByMaria did you always want to be a business owner? How did you come for the idea for your Instagram?
I honestly didn’t know I was going to be a business owner but I knew I was never going to be able to work for someone else. I knew this from a young age but it was confirmed when I went into accounting. I hated it. I would get emails telling me to talk quietly and that I should remain seated more. I was out.
My business started long before FoodByMaria, I just didn’t know it yet. FoodByMaria started when I was young. When my passion for food flourished. Although FoodByMaria took the back burner for 6 years while I battled bulimia she was always in my heart. As a matter of fact, I think FoodByMaria helped me overcome bulimia. A powerful voice in my mind allowed me to learn about food and no longer fear it. After recovering from Bulimia I quickly developed IBS and had massive digestive issues and that’s when FoodByMaria was born. I used my new IG platform to document the recipes I was making and how they made me feel… then out of nowhere, here I am! haha. I wish it was a more glamorous story but it didn’t happen without a lot of sacrifices, tears and hard work.
Fun fact: My bulimia developed in my first year on university and I beat it in my last semester of Uni. A total of 6 years. This is crazy but I believe the universe was sending my signals. I wasn’t supposed to be an accountant. I learnt so many lessons from bulimia. I learnt that I am the stronger woman I know.
9.Where would you recommend that everyone should travel?
Anything Health Ledger. Really tapping into my youth.
11.One thing you can’t live without and why?
My Note Book. I love writing things down. Keeps me motivated.
